To install and configure the FastCGI extension for Internet Information Services (IIS), the required steps depend on your Windows and IIS version. On modern versions of Windows (IIS 7.0 and later), FastCGI is already built directly into the operating system and only needs to be enabled via the CGI feature. On legacy operating systems like Windows Server 2003 (IIS 6.0), a standalone extension must be downloaded and installed separately. Option 1: Modern Windows & IIS Versions (IIS 7.0 to IIS 10)
For Windows ⁄11 and Windows Server 2016/2019/2022/2025, you do not need to download an external file. The FastCGI module automatically activates when you install the core CGI role feature. For Windows Server (2012 and newer) Open the Server Manager. Click Manage and select Add Roles and Features. Advance through the wizard to the Server Roles page. Expand Web Server (IIS) →right arrow Web Server →right arrow Application Development.
