iZotope iDrum was a foundational software drum machine plugin designed to combine the “magical instant-gratification” of classic vintage hardware with the flexibility of modern digital audio workstations (DAWs). Originally developed by Glaresoft and later acquired and expanded by iZotope, it served as a popular, lightweight entry-level beat-making tool.
While iZotope has since discontinued the product to focus on advanced production tools like BreakTweaker, iDrum is remembered as a pioneering virtual step-sequencer. Core Architectural Features

The Step Sequencer: Built around a traditional, lightning-fast 16-button or multi-track step grid. It allowed users to click in beats quickly or switch note divisions (e.g., 32nd or 64th notes) to create rapid fills.
Dual-Mode Functionality: It operated seamlessly as a standalone application on Mac/PC or as an instrument plugin (VST, AU, RTAS) inside DAWs like Pro Tools, Logic, GarageBand, and Ableton Live.
Massive File Architecture: A single iDrum file could store up to 99 distinct patterns alongside all loaded drum samples, making it highly portable.
